How to sell tickets for an event

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 3:37 PM

How do I get access to the event ticketing feature?

The ticketing feature is currently in beta and available to selected merchants only. You need to be a verified SnapScan merchant first. Once verified, your SnapScan agent will enable the ticketing feature on your account and confirm when it is live.

Tip: Reach out to the SnapScan team if you would like to be considered for the beta.

Do I need to pay anything to use the ticketing feature?

There is no platform fee to use the ticketing feature. A small service fee is charged to the ticket buyer at checkout; you, as the organiser, receive the full ticket price you set. Your standard SnapScan transaction settlement applies to all ticket sales.

How do I create an event?

Once your account has been enabled for ticketing, log into your Merchant Portal and navigate to the Events section. Fill in your event details, including name, date, venue, ticket types, and pricing. Your event will go through an internal review before going live.

Tip: Have all your event details ready before you start; once ticket sales open, pricing and quantities cannot be changed. Reach out to the SnapScan team if you’re unsure as to what to include in your event listing.

Can I create or link an event flyer?

Your SnapScan logo on your Merchant account will be used for your event. You can tell your community to look out for your logo to find your event in the event listing on the SnapScan app.

How long does it take for my event to be approved?

Events are reviewed by the SnapScan team during the beta period. If changes are required before approval, we will contact you with specific feedback.

⚠ Note: Start the setup process well ahead of when you want ticket sales to open; do not leave it to the last minute.

Tickets & Pricing

Can I have different ticket types and prices?

Yes. You can create multiple ticket types for a single event, for example Adult, Child, VIP, Early Bird. You can also create your own unique custom ticket types. Each ticket type can have its own price.

Can I change ticket prices or quantities after sales have started?

Once ticket sales have opened, pricing and quantities cannot easily be changed. It is important to confirm all details before your event goes live.

Can I extend the date of ticket sales?

Once ticket sales have opened, you won’t be able to change the closing date of your ticket sales. It is important to confirm all details before your event goes live.
Tip: Rather close sales on or before the date of your event. Once your set number of tickets have been sold, your ticket sales will automatically close, and potential attendees will no longer be able to buy tickets.

Can I see who has bought a ticket?

If you want a list of attendees, you can reach out to the SnapScan team, and we can enable referencing for your event. This feature can collect the name, email, or phone number of attendees.

Tip: Please note, you need to do this before ticket sales go live. This information is shared at the discretion of the user.

What data can I see with regards to my event?

If you look in your Merchant Portal you can see how many events you’ve hosted, the average ticket price, how many tickets are sold and how much you have earned in ticket sales from your event.

What happens if my event is cancelled?

If you need to cancel your event, reach out to the SnapScan team immediately. You will need to manage the refund process for your attendees. However, if you reach out to the SnapScan team, we can provide you with a list of emails and contact details to get the process started.

⚠ Note: Do not open ticket sales until your venue is confirmed and your event is certain to go ahead.

Promoting Your Event

How do I share my event with my audience?

Once your event is approved and live, you will have an event link to share. Here is how to use it:

  • Online (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp): share the clickable event link directly in your post or message

  • Physical flyers and posters: use a QR code; free tools like bit.ly. let you generate one in minutes

Will SnapScan help promote my event?

Yes, all events are discoverable in the Events tab of the SnapScan app. Depending on the size and profile of your event, SnapScan may also share your event on our social media channels. Reach out to the SnapScan team about what promotional support is available.

Payments & Settlement

When do I receive the money from ticket sales?

Ticket sale proceeds are settled every business day, which means you’ll receive your funds within 1-3 business days. This is faster than most dedicated ticketing platforms, meaning you receive your funds sooner and can plan your event with confidence.

What payment methods can buyers use to purchase tickets?

Buyers purchase tickets using their SnapScan app. They will need to download the app before buying ticket to your event.

How do I recon the transactions linked to my event?

In your Merchant Portal, you’ll have a list of all the transactions on your account. You can filter by “event name” to see which transactions are linked to which event.

On the Day

How do I know the ticket is valid?

You can validate the tickets by checking for two things: the colour on the ticket and whether there is a pulsing movement which shows it isn’t a screenshot.

How do I redeem tickets at the door?
Tickets are redeemed with the two digit event code. This allows for offline redemption, meaning users don’t need signal at the gate. Make sure your staff are trained on the redemption process before the event day.

Tip: Have the code ready for the event. You can find it in your Merchant Portal.

What if there are technical issues on the day?
